Matt Tarka at Elmo's, Circus of Life Podcast and Story Time

Plus, getting ready for First Thursday and Dr. Margee Walsh on Fox 5.

Here are 5 Things for Wednesday, Sept. 4 in and around Del Ray:

Matt Tarka — One of my personal favorite local signer-songwriters takes the stage at 8 p.m. at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub (2300 Mount Vernon Ave.) for a free show. He has a particularly sharp ditty about public libraries. I hope he plays it.

The Circus Life Podcast — Looking for some good listening today? Chef Will Artley, formerly of Del Ray and currently of Pizzeria Orso, local singer-songwriter Kate Moran and drummer Ben Tufts (I think I know him from Facebook), take part in this Falls Church-based podcast presented by Justin Trawick and Sean Russell. I hear they talk about food and music. And maybe more food. And some about Del Ray. Sounds like a good lunchtime listen to me. Give it a click, here.

ACPS Superintendent on Fox — Dr. Margee Walsh, interim superintendent at Alexandria City Public Schools, sat down with Fox 5 for an interview yesterday for the first day of school. Take a gander, here.

Story Time — Head over to Old Town and Hooray for Books! (1555 King St.) for its a weekly story time Wednesdays at 4 p.m. for ages 3 to 6. Call 703-548-4092 for more information.

First Thursday — OK, First Thursday isn’t until tomorrow night. But it’s not too early to get your outfit ready for “Fashion’s Night Out,” which will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday along Mount Vernon Avenue.
