Alexandria Aces, Del Ray Artisans, Juan Carlos and Florida Lime Pie

Five things for Friday, Aug. 2 in the Del Ray area.

Here are five things to kick off your weekend, including playoff baseball—which I don’t think we’ll be seeing from the big club in the District this fall.

Aces Rescheduled — Thursday’s playoff game was a rainout, so the Aces will take Frank Mann Field at 2 p.m. today against the Baltimore Redbirds. On Wednesday, the Aces won their first game in the double-elimination Cal Ripken Baseball League playoffs and remain in the winners bracket. Adult tickets to Friday’s game are $5, and children 12 and under are $3.

Anything Goes at Del Ray Artisans — The gallery (2704 Mount Vernon Ave.) officially opens its 10th annual board showcase, titled “Anything Goes,” with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Free and open to all.

Juan Carlos — The Latin American singer-songwriter performs his catchy tunes in both Spanish and English from 8 to 10 p.m. at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub (2300 Mount Vernon Ave.)

Florida Lime Pie — Looking for a remedy to the dog days of summer? Today, Florida Lime Pie is the flavor of the day at The Dairy Godmother (2310 Mount Vernon Ave.).

Sales Tax Holiday — The Commonwealth of Virginia’s annual August sales tax holiday begins today and runs through Sunday. Qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales taxes.
