Bob, did we REALLY win the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan? As a retired Air Force vet, havingRead Morespe nt almost 17 years at the Pentagon, I know that statement is not true, especially with how Iraq is now is crisis, and Afghanistan will soon be once we essentially leave after the end of this year. In a true 'war', no one actually wins, as lives are tragically and insufferably lost on both sides, but the United States should have never gone into Iraq, as over 4,000 lives were lost there, with tens of thousands maimed or wounded, as well. Going into Afghanistan, right after 9/11, was a no brainer. We needed to root out Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and go after Osama Bin-Laden, who ended up living the 'high life' with the full and complete knowledge of the Pakastani military and government. I've seen war, where people on both sides die, and if the United States is going to actually 'win' a war, as you put it, massive destruction and a vast amount of human casualties and carnage must be undertaken, first. So, once again, most of us who were in the military don't think we actually 'won' in either Iraq or Afghanistan. You've got the right to your own opinion, but prove to me where 'we' have won, what 'we' won, and what 'we' got out of each war to claim victory? The war against terrorism goes on, today, and hasn't ended. That war will go on for decades, if not generations, and while it's a battle that must be fought, it's also a battle with no traditional winners. As a military, we must always, always, keep the hammer down, fight hard, and unmercifully try to eliminate every threat against us, both foreign and domestic, but the fight will never end, as terrorists don't care if Democrats or Republicans are in power, as they're going to attack us at each and every opportunity they can. They've done it in the past, during both Democratic and Republican administrations, and they'll do it again. That's why 'we' haven't actually won anything. We must always continue the fight, and the fight goes on, today, and long into the future.

Yes, someone is also pruning our shrubbery along Commonwealth and leaving branches and clippings on Read Morethe sidewalk. I concur. Pick up the beer bottles by my fence, and leave the gardens to the gardeners.

Send the GP down Mt. Vernon. Lots of lazy homeowners on the way to metro.
