'Wafle Shop' Awning to be Replaced

Restaurant ownership taking advantage of grant program from the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership.

The awning at the Waffle Shop in Arlandria will soon be replaced, meaning the quirky, beloved and possibly iconic misspelling of “wafle” is not long for the tight corner of Mt. Vernon Avenue and Russell Road.

At Wednesday’s Arlandria Action Plan open house at , members of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership announced that ownership of the 24-hour restaurant had decided to make the change.

The restaurant's owners are taking advantage of AEDP’s Facade Improvement Grant Program, which provides an opportunity for business and commercial property owners to improve the appearance of building facades and storefronts. It’s an incentive for businesses located inside Alexandria’s Enterprise Zone. The Waffle Shop will receive matching funds to replace the awning.
