VeloCity Bicycle Cooperative has the perfect remedy for the summertime blues—an ice cream ride around Alexandria.

Cyclists can gather at VeloCity’s facility located at 2111 Mt. Vernon Ave. in Del Ray at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The group will then take a casual group ride around the city with stops at three local frozen treat shops—Pop’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Company located at 109 King St. in Old Town, the Coldstone Creamery located at 329 Swamp Fox Rd., before a final stop back in Del Ray at The Dairy Godmother at 2310 Mt. Vernon Ave.

Cruiser bikes are suggested for the trip but not required. Kids are welcome, too, but parents might keep in mind that a route connecting all three stops would be approximately 7.2 miles.

VeloCity, a nonprofit that educates community members about bike maintenance, safety and other issues, moved to Del Ray from Old Town in February. Its staff has hosted a variety of events, including several women's nights that have featured open shop time and community rides.
