The Weekly Find: Summertime Treats

Affordable style for the home in seasonable colors

Target is my go-to store for grocery and household items. In an ever-constant effort to preserve our budget, I try to avoid their sections filled with home furnishings, furniture and décor. Instead, I convince myself that shopping for diapers and cereal is just as fun.

When the weather took a turn for the unbelievably hot this week, I found myself wandering the extra-cold, air-conditioned aisles at Target, wasting a bit of daylight while my sons fawned over the new "Cars 2" merchandise.

After the kids had their fill of Disney propaganda, we browsed the home furnishings section and found some absolutely charming items in bright summer colors—all reasonably priced.

There were loads of items for entertaining, from butterfly bowls and teapots to an entire row filled with melamine plates and pitchers—perfect summertime products due to their virtually indestructible nature.

I spotted picture frames that were bright, cute and would make a lovely gift. And, with home organization a favorite topic of mine, I was of course drawn to Target’s collection of colorful bins in fun patterns and finishes.

I especially liked the kitchenwares section just for kids that included colorful cooking implements designed specifically for little hands.

Target rotates their home furnishings based on season, so these bright and cheery summertime finds won’t be there for long. I can only hope the extra hot weather disappears as quickly.
