It’s been awhile since I’ve sent out Christmas cards. It’s been years, in fact. Each holiday season, I consider ordering something simple and, just as quickly, I remember all of the work involved and make an executive decision that we’ll definitely, most certainly, send out Christmas cards the next year.

Besides, isn’t everyone on Facebook anyway? It’s not like our life is a mystery to our friends and family.

To complicate matters further (if holiday cards can be considered even remotely complicated), my husband is of the absolute belief that holiday cards, which include photos, should always include the entire family in the photo. He’s not interested in seeing just other people’s kids from year to year. He wants the full monty—the entire clan—present and accounted for and in coordinating outfits, preferably with a holiday theme.

His expectations for our own Christmas cards are the same. This is, naturally, where our opinions digress. I say holiday photo cards are all about the kids. In our extended family, I’m pretty sure no one has cared what we grownups have looked like since our itty-bitty mini-mes arrived.

And, since this year, I was determined to both send out Christmas cards on time and to win an argument, I ordered our cards with just the kids on the cover.

This, of course, doesn’t stop my husband from keeping an unofficial tally, as each day’s holiday card offerings arrive in the mail, of who sent cards with just the kids and who went the extra mile to include the parents.
