Sock Hop Raises $7,000 for Miracle League of Alexandria

More than 150 boogied Saturday night at Mount Vernon Recreation Center.

More than 150 people danced Saturday night away at Mount Vernon Recreation Center during a sock hop benefiting the Miracle League of Alexandria.

The event raised roughly $7,000 to be used toward the construction of a synthetic turf baseball field designed specifically for individuals with special needs.

Music was provided by the Irish Breakfast Band, the Kate Moran Band, Mars Rodeo, the Janna Audey Band and Bill Mansfield.

Del Ray’s Gayle Reuter, Carol Bailey and Pat Miller coordinated the event in honor of Miracle League participant Ryan Bailey.

A dozen local restaurants donated food for the event, which also featured face painting by Girl Scout Troop 6686 and storytelling by Vera Oye' Yaa-Anna.

It was a blast. Looking forward to it becoming an annual neighborhood event.
