Mexican-Peruvian Restaurant Receives Approval

Menu for Mount Vernon Avenue spot will focus on tacos, carne asada and chicken dishes.

Plans for a Mexican and Peruvian restaurant on Mount Vernon Avenue received approval Saturday from the Alexandria City Council.

Council unanimously approved a major renovation of 3401 Mount Vernon Ave., which will become a restaurant seating 28 patrons.

According to the permit application filed by Jose Mario Cabero and Jose Guillermo Cabero, the renovation will include overhauling a 1,200-square-foot wooden building with a basement, built in 1920. In the renovation process, roughly 203 square feet of the existing building would be demolished and an addition of 521 square feet would be constructed.

The décor will feature “original and sustainable materials” including a permeable driveway and a patio surrounded by an organic herb garden, which will screen restaurant patrons and provide shade.

The proposal calls for 16 interior seats and 12 outdoor seats on the seasonal patio. The restaurant was approved to be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

The menu will focus on tacos, carne asada and chicken dishes. It will also offer a selection of salads and sandwiches as well as the sale of alcoholic beverages.

No one spoke for or against the proposal at Saturday's hearing. Maria Wasowski of the Del Ray Business Association spoke in support of the plan at a Jan. 4 Planning Commission hearing.
