We sure love our four-legged friends in Old Town or Del Ray. It’s almost impossible to walk down King Street or Mt. Vernon Avenue and not trip on a leash or see a feline in someone’s window.
With so many pets, we also need people to take care of them. What’s your favorite veterinarian in Old Town and Del Ray?
Share your favorite Alexandria veterinarian with other Patch readers. If you think we’ve missed one, add it in the comments and we'll count your suggestion as a vote.

Paws, Purrs and Exotics Animal Hospital is the best!

I like Caring Hands on Glebe Rd by Gold's Gym. It's very close to Mt Vernon at it's northern end so it is almost in Del Ray.

We've taken our cats to El Paw Veterinary Clinic on Pickett Street for many years and have been quite satisfied with them.

We've taken our dogs to El Paw for the past 7 years and have been very happy with them. Dr. Pearce is a vet for all the right reasons. She loves animals, cares for them professioanlly and compationately all without charging a fortune.

Belle Haven Animal Center. I've done all the rest and LOVE Belle Haven. And they love my animals. I can't believe you left them off the list in the first instance!

Marjorie and Cathy,
I appreciate the suggestion of Belle Haven Animal Medical Center. A friend of mine used to work. The thing is, this poll is for Del Ray and Old Town. Belle Haven Animal Medical Center isn't in the City of Alexandria (just the mailing address). You can vote for them in the Readers' Choice poll for the Patch sites down Route 1. We tried a few and like BHAMC the best, and thanks for the link to that poll Drew.

I agree with Dawn - I love Paws, Purrs and Exotics Animal Hospital in Old Town. The entire staff seems to LOVE and always remember my husky Dolce (and she's not even particularly well-behaved!) and they're always so accommodating in terms of hours, dropping her off before work for an afternoon appointment, etc. On top of it, the vets will personally call and talk to you about different treatments, how your dog is doing, etc.

Please add the VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital at 2660 Duke Street. Every vet is fabulous; my regular vet is Dr. Janice Baxter. They have a 24-hour emergency service which is also terrific.

All I can tell you is that when our first min pin, Bam Bam, was barely one year old and weighed about 6 pounds, he ate a large, plastic Big Bird refrigerator magnet, but we didn't know it. We noticed he was wobbling and appeared to be in pain over the course of two days. We took him to VCA Animal Hospital on Duke St. the second night when it was clear he was in big trouble. They diagnosed him quickly and did emergency surgery in the middle of the night for a severe intestinal blockage. They saved the little guy's life and within two days, he was running around again like nothing had happened despite major surgery. He lived to the ripe old age of 11, and died this past November of natural causes. He and Pebbles were the featured on this very news site as Dogs of the Week. We love VCA Animal Hospital. The saved Bam Bam, and that's enough for us. We still take Pebbles there, and now Fred too. We are always happy with their service.

Banfield is pretty good (in Petsmart). Their doggy health plans make a lot of sense, especially if you have a puppy. Some vet's there are better then others, but once you get in with a good one make sure to stay with them. If you do it's just as good of an experience as some of the over priced places in the area.

Not valid if not including largest 24 hour animal hospital in old town. Duke st is in the 22314. Why bother with this poll?
