The show will go on. Old Town Theater will continue as an entertainment venue.
Rob Kaufman of PMA Properties announced Saturday morning that a local production company will operate the theater as a live performance venue.
The building is currently being renovated and Kaufman said more details would be available closer to the renovation’s completion.
Kaufman said: “This strong pledge of support from the entire community has helped to breathe new life into this old building. Renovations are underway to return the theater to its original eloquence and should be completed by this fall.”
According to the announcement from Kaufman, a full calendar of matinee and evening performances featuring comedy, music, magic and dance will be offered along with weekly appearances from nationally touring entertainers.
In addition to soft drinks and concessions, a gourmet, light fare menu will be offered, as well as a select list of beer and wine. Special events, catering and full service production capabilities will be available.

Alexandria could use another good live music venue--to include blues, rock and jazz genres.

Ron Kaufman is a real professional. I'm sure he will help make this great theater great again. He is a guy who really cares about Alexandria.

I will look forward to the calendar of events. I hope the Old Town Trolley will still be running when the concerts and other shows let out!

Fantastic. We need something to do at night on king besides eating. All the shops close so options are pretty thin without the theater

Didn't someone try to do this same thing a few years ago before the last closing and it didn't work out? It sounds like this renovation is going to be more significant so perhaps it'll sail this time around. Parking will still be an issue.
They're going to need a very strong booking agent to keep it going. Maybe a partnership with the folks at the Birchmere?
Sharon: do you know how many seats they'll have?

This is very exciting. I hope the variety of entertainment will appeal to locals and tourists, families and adults. With more residences going in Carlyle and Braddock I hope we have critical mass to support a commercial theater/entertainment venue again.

+1. All things being equal, this might be the best possible outcome. (Sure is a lot better than another fancy clothing store.)
