Office of the Arts Seeks Performers for Four Mile Run Market

Market held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October in Four Mile Run Park.

The Alexandria Office of the Arts, in collaboration with the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, is seeking performing artists to play on the new stage at the Four Mile Run Farmers and Artisans Market.

The stage is just one part of the expansion and revitalization efforts at Four Mile Run Park, which hosts the market.

The Alexandria Commission for the Arts provided funding for the outdoor stage at the Four Mile Run Park Community Building with grant money from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Last year, Alexandria received an anonymous $10,000 donation to be used exclusively toward revitalizing Four Mile Run Park, including the stage.

The volunteer-run market is held near the north end of Mt. Vernon Avenue on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through the end of October.

Musicians and other performers are invited to send a letter of interest with a resume or curriculum vitae to aca@alexandria.gov with a subject line of “Call for Performing Artists.”

Submissions by mail should be sent to the Office of the Arts, Attn: “Call for Performing Artists” 1605 Cameron St., Alexandria, VA 22314.

Artists must be self-contained and provide their own microphones, sound equipment, chairs and tents. Parking is available.

The Four Mile Run Market debuted its new performance stage in May with a performance by the Irish Breakfast Band and banjo player Bill Mansfield. Other performers this summer have included The Uncle Devin Show, Wytold and Marsha Goodman-Wood.

For more information on the market, visit its website and follow along on Facebook and Twitter.
