MVCS Fundraiser Brings in $19,000
Money will go toward literacy and technology needs at Del Ray school.
The Mount Vernon Community School PTA’s Fabulous Fall Fundraiser event raised approximately $19,000 for literacy and technology needs at the school, according to event organizer Caroline Jackson.
The Oct. 22 event was hosted by MVCS parents Joe and Christi Hart as well as their neighbors, Kellie O’Brien and Maryellen Thorp. The two households opened their backyards for the adults-only event that featured food and drinks from several local restaurants and caterers, including Evening Star Cafe, Buzz Bakery, La Strada and Del Ray Cakery.
Other sponsors included Monarch Title, Black Couch Brewery, West Landscaping, Capital City Rentals and ASAP Printing.
Music at the event was provided by Cabasa Latin Jazz Trio.
“We appreciate the efforts of our volunteers and are very thankful for our generous donors and party attendees,” Jackson wrote in an email.
The money raised will specifically go toward items on the PTA’s literacy and technology wish list, including a “Time for Kids” subscription and birthday book for each student, additional SmartBoards, new Spanish-language books and iPod applications for reading comprehension.
