Market 2 Market Aims to Reopen This Week

Gourmet sandwich shop to hold grand reopening at June First Thursday street festival.

Market 2 Market, closed since an April 5 fire damaged its storefront near the corner of Mount Vernon and E. Del Ray avenues, may reopen later this week, according to owner Larry Ponzi.

Ponzi said the sandwich shop will have a soft opening on Thursday or Friday, then follow up with an official grand reopening at the June 6 First Thursday street festival in Del Ray.

“We plan to come back bigger and better,” Ponzi said.

The grand reopening will include free samples and a beer tasting.

Ponzi said a smoking electrical outlet was cited as the source of the April 5 fire, which caused an estimated $200,000 in damages. It was officially called “a fire anomaly,” he said.
