CrossFit in Old Town on Sunday is hosting a fundraiser to help pay for the medical bills of trainer Michael Hart, a husband, father of three young girls, a brother and a crossfit coach.
Hart has been suffering from an undiagnosed degenerative disease that is attacking his body and is limiting his ability to walk and speak.
Hart just one year ago won a crossfit competition.
Mike has been seen by doctors at the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins University and local physicians in Virginia, but none can identify the disease. Various treatments have been tried with very limited success.
The event at 805 N. Royal St. will be held beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday with Hart, a fellow trainer, Hart's brother and others. Beginning every hour, athletes will complete a crossfit regime developed by Hart. At 4 p.m. Sunday there is a free barbeque with requested donations for Hart at 3001 Edgehill Dr. in Alexandria.
Monetary donations are also accepted online or can be mailed to Michael P. Hart Recovery Fund, 307 N. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314.
