Updated: Harris Teeter on S. Glebe Closes Due to Flooding

No word on cause of flooding or when the grocery store will reopen.

8 a.m. Saturday update — Harris Teeter will remain closed Saturday and "potentially the next several days," according to an employee at the grocery store's customer service desk.

The Harris Teeter at the corner of Jefferson Davis Highway and S. Glebe Road closed early Friday evening because of interior flooding at the grocery store.

Attendants were steering shoppers away from the building’s parking garage. Residents at the 476-unit The Eclipse complex above the Harris Teeter were still allowed to enter the garage.

Harris Teeter employees said they did not know the cause of the flooding.

A bevy of trucks from Magnolia Plumbing and Purofirst were parked outside the mixed-use building on both S. Glebe and Route 1. Pump trucks parked along the northbound right-hand turn lane on Route 1 to deal with the water.

“It was real bad,” said a Magnolia Plumbing employee on site around 6:40 p.m. “It’s a lot better now.”

No word on when the Harris Teeter will reopen.
