Final Big Flea Shop 'n Drop is Saturday

Mount Vernon Community School PTA seeking donations for its biggest fundraiser.

The MV Big Flea is fast approaching and Saturday is the final Shop 'n Drop before the big sale on May 5.

Mount Vernon Community School PTA members will be collecting donations for the flea market—antiques, items around the house, anything but these—on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Flea warehouse located at 3815 Mt. Vernon Ave.

The PTA will then put the items up for sale on beginning at 8 a.m. on May 5 at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center. All the proceeds from the Big Flea go to the MVCS PTA. Last year, the Big Flea raised $30,619.

“Whether you are or aren't a parent, you should take this opportunity to look around your house and ask yourself if you really like your stuff,” MVCS parent Andrew Beaujon wrote in an email. “My theory is that most people have learned to live with at least 50 percent their possessions (I know I have), even if they don't enjoy having them around.

“Usually, the hassle of getting rid of them sucks all the oxygen out of your resolve. But we can make it easy to clear the decks for something you might actually enjoy owning: If you can haul your item to the Shop N Drop, we'll gingerly unpack it for you and then take care of finding it a good home.”

If your donations prove too difficult to carry to the Shop 'n Drop, Beaujon and other MVCS parents can come and get them for you. Send an email to mvbigfleadonations@gmail.com and a crew will be sent in your direction.

Folks are welcome to stop by the Shop 'n Drop on Saturday and make early purchases if something catches their fancy, as the DIY Del Ray ladies are known to do.
