Ebbin: Democrats Are Creating a Template for Campaigns of the Future

State Sen. Adam Ebbin, who represents Alexandria as well as part of Arlington and Fairfax counties, spoke with Patch from the Obama-Biden headquarters in Old Town.

Virginia state Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-30th) stopped by the Obama-Biden Alexandria headquarters in Old Town on Tuesday to work the phone banks and talk to supporters.

The office at 1400 Duke St. was a hive of activity. People standing in lines and draped on the floors throughout hallways talking on cell phones, waiting for training on how to canvass voters properly, working the phone banks and helping in other ways.

Ebbin told Patch that he’s excited about the great turnout and grassroots enthusiasm.

“This campaign is using techniques of the future… by organizing right down to the neighborhood level,” he said, speaking with Patch in a storage room—the only semi-quiet place in the building.

“Alexandria and Northern Virginia are so key to the president’s likelihood of winning Virginia,” he said.

Ebbin said he hopes everyone gets out to vote, adding that the Democratic Party offers everyone a ride to the polls.

“The people are responding to the accomplishments of the last four years,” he said, citing President Obama’s record on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” ending the war in Iraq, women’s rights and providing the ability for some children to obtain healthcare on their parents’ policies.

On the Alexandria elections, Ebbin said: “We have a strong slate for Council and mayor. I’m optimistic that voters will recognize the talent put forward on that slate.”

I wonder if Mr. Ebbin can explain then why early voting was down in NoVA double digits across the various localities then? If:

"Alexandria and Northern Virginia are so key to the president’s likelihood of winning Virginia"

It's understood that these hard core local Democrats are busy trying to advance their social issues and recruit from the more ideological young people who have moved here. Their annoyance of others (endless robocalls) who have other interests will not win them friends.
