Effort to Name Bridge After Judy Lowe Moves Online

Del Ray Citizens Association seeking signatures on an online petition.

The effort to name the Monroe Avenue Bridge after Judy Lowe is now on the web.

The Del Ray Citizens Association recently posted a petition online to name the bridge after the neighborhood icon who passed away in November at the age of 75.

Lowe lived in Del Ray for more than 50 years and was an active member in the DRCA and Alexandria Democrats. In 2003, she was granted a lifetime achievement award from the Alexandria Commission on Women in honor of her devotion to the city.

“Judy Lowe loved Alexandria and fought for it and the Del Ray community in which she lived the majority of her life,” the petition reads. “Judy Lowe touched countless lives. She spent countless hours investing in building a better community for Del Ray and the City of Alexandria.”

Elizabeth Jones, aide to City Councilman Rob Krupicka, introduced the petition at the DRCA’s holiday party in December. On Sunday, DRCA Treasurer David Fromm sent an email to members with a link to the petition.
