Driver Strikes Police Cruiser During Traffic Stop

Nineteen-year-old arrested for reckless driving following Sunday night incident.

A 19-year-old male was arrested around 7:10 p.m. Sunday after striking the front of a Metro Transit Police cruiser with his car during a traffic stop at Braddock Road Metro station.

An MTPD officer on routine patrol at Braddock Road Metro station initiated the traffic stop after observing a 1993 Mercedes drive through a red signal on Braddock Road and then enter the station parking lot through a bus bay exit with a posted “Do Not Enter” sign.

The vehicle stopped briefly and then drove in reverse, striking the front of the police cruiser.

The driver, identified only as a 19-year-old male, was placed under arrest for reckless driving and transported to the Alexandria Adult Detention Center for processing. Two juvenile passengers in the vehicle were released to their parents on the scene.

The Mercedes was towed from the scene due to damage resulting from the accident. No injuries were reported.
