Dos Amigos to Open Tuesday

Tex-Mex restaurant is located near Braddock Metro in space previously occupied by Grass Roots Station.

Dos Amigos Bar and Grill, a new Tex-Mex restaurant located at 535 E. Braddock Rd., is opening Tuesday.

The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday. A menu is posted on the restaurant’s website, featuring entrees between $9.95 and $18.95.

Dos Amigos also has a Facebook page and Twitter account

In a message on the Dos Amigos website, Salvadoran owners Ricardo Arias and Hector Lobo write that the restaurant “will offer a casual atmosphere where you can enjoy a meal with your family or grab a margarita with friends after work. We also serve lunch so come on in during your lunch break — Free Wi-Fi!”

The restaurant space, located close to Braddock Road Metro station, most recently housed Grass Roots Station restaurant.

Local architect Marlin Lord helped oversee some interior renovations, including the addition of a bar. Lord oversaw the addition of a new dining room at Los Tios on Mount Vernon Avenue.

After attending a pre-opening party I can say -- Really great food, great people and lots of fun! Some parking out front and many spots in back in the evening so don't let the location keep you away if you don't feel like walking. Go try them out, you won't be disappointed!!!

Jeannie - where are the spots in back? Are they the ones in the parking lot between the building and the train tracks (accessed via Braddock) or in the garage accessed via West St?

We definitely can use some Gringo Mex in Alexandria - bring on the sour cream, cheddar cheese, and chimichangas!

Wow. $11 for a chicken burrito? Closer to $12 when you factor tax? Why? It's rice, beans and chicken? It shouldn't be even $7. I can get mussels at Brabo for less! And a $10 cheeseburger... at a Mexican place? Are the owners smoking crack?! How much you want to bet this place will be out of business within 10 months?

If the owners are reading- lower your prices now. NOW. Lower them so that people don't think twice about eating at your establishment. Right now, no one wants to drop $12 on enchilladas or $13 on a coke and a burrito. So they go elsewhere. If everything was dropped by $2 you'd probably bring in some crowds and make money on voulmn. After the first month you're gonna lose people forever. Trust me.

You probably won't follow my advice but at least you've been warned.

Warren - my wife and I just walked by and were surprised at how expensive ever thing is so we did not eat there because it was too expensive for the type of food served. Bittersweet Restaurant located at the corner of King St and Alfred St, recent became a Mexican restaurant, and it has wonderful chefs (not cooks!) the owner brought in from Mexico City. The food is fabulous food and considerably less than what Dos Amigos charges which is rather odd as the Bittersweet restaurant has a King Street address too, meaning the rent is probably a lot more than Dos Amigos! As Warren said, Dos Amigos needd to drop its prices immediately or it will be gone quite quickly!

Sad to say, the prices are no higher than Don Pablo's or Chevy's (or even Los Tios in Del Ray). When I'm in the mood for Mexican food, I'll put my dining dollars to a locally owned establishment over a chain restaurant any day. As long as it's good anyway!

I also won't be spending $15 on a beer and a burrito. They need to remember that they're the third restaurant in that spot in three years. It was high prices that kept the crowds away from Grass Roots Station. You'd think the new owners would've done a simple market analysis and uncovered this but I hear they're aren't experienced business men. It's disappointing. I had high hopes that the south end of Del Ray would get a solid go-to spot.
