Del Ray Variety to Hold Grand Opening March 30
New store on E. Custis Avenue will hold "preview week" beginning Friday.
Del Ray Variety, a new store located just off Mount Vernon Avenue at 203 E. Custis Ave., is holding its grand opening on March 30.

The event, which begins at 10 a.m., will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony with city officials, face painting, giveaways and refreshments from Del Ray Pizzeria and Caboose Bakery.
Patch received a look inside the 4,000-square-foot space on Thursday as employees were putting merchandize on the shelves. The massive inventory includes kids toys, model planes and cars, arts and crafts, pet products, helium balloons, puzzles, greeting cards, candy, hardware, party supplies (including piñatas), office and school supplies, beauty products, bath and kitchen products and general home merchandise.
If you’re looking for items for your student’s diorama project or general craft supplies, Del Ray Variety is worth a look. If you need assorted baby items, glass jars, over-the-counter medications or fishing supplies (let’s think of a situation where one would need all four…), they’re on the shelves, too.
Del Ray Variety will be open from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The property has 21 on-site parking spaces for customers, a rarity for Del Ray.
Management will begin opening the store for regular hours Friday, March 22, for a one-week “preview,” giving customers a chance to check out the store, offer feedback and meet the staff.
Customers can follow the store on Facebook and send inquiries to delrayvariety@gmail.com.
Del Ray Variety plans to get involved with this summer’s First Thursday street festivals and other events, management said.

Wow, looks great. I'll be looking for some things there this weekend.
I didn't know what to expect, I don't think I've ever been to a similar store. The wood shelves look nice.

Wait a minute. This store could compete with already existing stores and give shoppers more choices. Who at the Del Ray Central Planning Bureau approved this opening?

I can't in good conscience shop at this location until Bill Hendrickson gives this business his personal stamp of approval.

I hope all of the people who opposed Howling Pig will shop there, since judging from the pictures it apparently has a huge selection of the YARN they seemed to crave. Kidding aside I've peeped in the windows and it seems like an interesting store. Looking forward to the opening.
