Del Ray Couple Among Finalists in Dream Wedding Contest
Matt McCrory and Katie Morse were engaged following a happy hour at Monroe's.
Despite attending the same Virginia Beach middle school and high school, Del Ray couple Katie Morse and Matt McCrory didn’t connect until a fateful day in March 2010 when they ran into each other at the Alexandria St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
A courtship followed and the couple moved to Del Ray in June 2012. McCrory popped the question after a happy hour at Monroe’s in October and Morse, of course, said “yes.”
“I was preparing my pie entry for the Art on the Avenue pie-baking contest,” Morse wrote in an email. “Not only did I get engaged, but I won third place.”
The couple received a surprise this week when they found they had been chosen as one of seven finalists in Northern Virginia Magazine’s Dream Wedding Giveaway.
To enter the contest, the couple put together a two-minute sharing the story of how they met and what makes their relationship unique.
Their video is now pitted against those of six other couples. The couple that receives the most votes in the competition will receive wedding arrangements valued at more than $100,000.

“We love the Del Ray community and love we got engaged here,” Morse wrote.

I know i'm an old fuddy-duddy - i just don't get why wedding are costing/people are spending a 100K after living together before marriage and the high divorce rate (yeah, i get that people don't go into marriage thinking they're the couple that will divorce). Living together - go to city hall.
