Daylight Saving Ends Early Sunday
We 'fall back' this weekend. What will you do with your extra hour?
Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. Sunday.
This means you will "fall back" and set your clocks back one hour. Daylight saving begins again on March 10, 2013.
That extra hour gives you a chance to get out in the Washington area and have some fun or get some extra sleep.
Metro announced Friday it will close 3 a.m. Sunday. Metro explained in a tweet, "Sunday morning at 2:00 a.m. it becomes 1:00 a.m. The Metrorail system will close two hours later at 3:00 a.m."
When you change your clocks in the fall and spring, it's also a good time to change smoke detector batteries and check to make sure they are in working order, local fire officials say.
Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa do not observe daylight saving time.
Around the world, about 75 countries and territories have at least one location that observes daylight saving time, according to TimeandDate.com. On the other hand, 164 don't observe the time change at all.

Daylight savings time is pointless. They should leave the clocks alone so that people don't have to lose sleep in the spring.

There is no longer any valid reason to do this. This is about more than losing a little sleep. Every time we're forced to do this, it disrupts mind and body for several days and my dog keeps wanting to get up at the wrong time. If our government served us instead of the merchants who want this for extended store hours, we would follow the example of Arizona and not change the clocks.

I don't like doing it because it means coming home at dusk for my elementary school student -- he gets no daylight to play outside on weekdays. On the other hand, it's not quite as dark when my middle schooler is waiting for the bus at 6:50 in the morning.
