Launched in December, American Food Roots is the brainchild of four D.C.-area food journalists—NPR commentator and food writer Bonny Wolf, Associated Press food and cultural writer Michele Kayal, cookbook author Domenica Marchetti and Scripps Howard News Service content editor Carol Guensburg.

The site explores what Americans eat and why.

The quartet of writers recently was awarded a McCormick Foundation grant for new media women entrepreneurs. The American University grant program recognizes “the ingenuity and entrepreneurial skills of women in journalism,” according to a release.

Davis’ video segment is part of the site’s My American Roots section, which highlights food stories in America through two-minute video memoirs.

"We want to discuss what foods are important to members of a particular region," Kayal said. "This video is about how important custard is to Wisconsinites."

The Dairy Godmother is located at 2310 Mount Vernon Ave.
