“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to the local community in recognition of National Physical Therapy month,” Core Wellness owner and founder Elizabeth Polis said in a press release. “Not only does it provide us the opportunity to get to know residents of Del Ray and the surrounding area, but it will also provide tangible, thoughtful advice for those looking to improve their mobility and enhance their well-being—that includes those currently suffering from chronic pain to those hoping to prevent it down the line.”

Refreshments from Del Ray Pizzeria and The Happy Tart will be served at Saturday’s open house.

A pizzeria and a bakery are catering a nutrition-focused wellness center's open house? Is that for real or is this some joke?

No joke, just a realistic approach to teaching people how to make nutritious selections wherever they are eating. Putting entire categories of food off limits is never a good idea and doesn't help people do anything but become anxious about food.

I see how that looks confusing, and seemingly counterintuitive, McBrinn!

We chose whole food options; which is what we promote to wellness clients and physical therapy patients alike. Foods that support healing, regeneration, and fight inflammation-with the bonus of being rich in nutrients and flavor!

We served: grilled vegetables with sunflower dipping sauce, lettuce cups with beef and cashews, fruit skewers, grilled portobello mushrooms, smoked salmon with dill on cucumbers and gluten free 2-3 bite tarts, macaroons, and petit fours.

Vicki makes a great point. We encourage eating and lifestyle habits that are practical for everyday life. Since we expected most attendees to be from Del Ray and Alexandria, we wanted folks to know they have a variety of healthy options close by.

Del Ray Pizzaria, and The Happy Tart are great establishments that offer an array of options for people with food allergies, people who live a paleo lifestyle and eat accordingly, or folks who want food that is just as delicious as it is nutritious. Learning which foods provide optimal fuel is what equips us to make good vs bad choices in these environments as well as the meals we prepare in our homes.

Hope you ladies have a fantastic weekend,
Elizabeth
