Bombay Curry Company Readies New Location

After lengthy delay, Indian restaurant begins preparations to reopen on Mount Vernon Avenue.

After a lengthy delay, renovation work at Bombay Curry Company’s new Mount Vernon Avenue location is underway.

“Demo started today. Contractor says 90 days should do it. Fingers (and toes) crossed,” reads a message posted Saturday on the Bombay Curry Company Facebook page.

The announcement sparked a fair amount of delight from patrons who have missed the restaurant’s Indian cuisine for more than a year.

In December 2011, Bombay Curry Company closed its location in the retail strip at the Calvert apartments just before the building entered a massive two-year overhaul project.

Owner Balraj Bhasin’s request to operate a restaurant at 2607 Mount Vernon Ave. received approval from City Council in February 2012.

Bhasin had hoped to open in June, but cost and space constraints at the new space and other structural matters played a role in holding things up. He expressed hope to open in December 2012, but matters were pushed back again.

“I miss them!! And now they'll be within walking distance,” Vivian Ramirez wrote Saturday on the Del Ray Patch Facebook page. “This could prove dangerous.”
