Alexandria Hospital Holds Free Health Expo
The event will take place Wednesday at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Inova Alexandria Hospital is holding its annual health expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the U.S Patent and Trademark Office in the Carlyle area.
The office is located at 600 Dulany St. The event is free and open to the public.
The expo will feature health screenings and massage, including blood pressure and body mass index checks and skin cancer screenings. It will also include a health and wellness booth where local residents can talk with hospital staff about cancer awareness and prevention, back pain, cardiac health, heartburn, nutrition, joint health and more.
A particular emphasis this year is cancer screenings, said hospital spokeswoman Allison Kenty. “We always say that detection is the best prevention,” she said.
This year’s expo also will feature:
- A Cooking Healthy Demonstration at 10:45 a.m: A fun and interactive demonstration on healthy cooking.
- How Stress Affects Your Health at 11:30 a.m.: Chronic stress can lead to depression, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and anxiety. Learn how your body reacts to stress and how to reduce stress through nutrition, exercise, relaxation and supportive relationships.
- A fitness class at 1:15 p.m.: This class will offer a combination of Zumba, Tae Bo and Melt led by sport and health instructors. Bring your sneakers and prepare to sweat!
