ACPS Unveils Summer Construction Projects

Work begins at Landmark Mall for the new T.C. Williams Satellite Campus, a new security system is in the works and more.

Alexandria City Public Schools has unveiled its latest summer construction report, highlighting which schools are undergoing renovations for the next couple of months and noting that long-range planning for school capacity is on the agenda.

Among the highlights:

T.C. Williams Satellite Campus: The city’s Educational Facilities Department will transform two retail spaces to accommodate the new T.C. Williams Satellite campus at Landmark Mall. The exact scope of the work is not yet determined, but the project is expected to be completed by Aug. 31.

Master Key System: Educational Facilities will begin developing a security and visitor management program. Douglas Macarthur is the pilot school for this project followed by Matthew Maury and Charles Barrett Elementary.

Plumbing Upgrades: Water efficient plumbing fixtures will be installed in a variety of schools including Lyles-Crouch and Mount Vernon Community School.

The report includes a list of repairs to each specific school, including lobby and administrative offices reconfiguration and redesign including new floor tiles, painting and new furniture scheduled to be completed at Mount Vernon by July 23. At T.C. Williams, a feasibility study is underway for six tennis courts, among other things.

The ACPS Procurement Office is currently reviewing a request for proposals for Architectural and Engineering Services. Once that document is posted, a formal solicitation process will begin to hire consultants to assist ACPS in long-range planning to “accommodate the rapid growth of our student population,” according to the report.
